In an eagerly anticipated League Cup semi final, played in front of a capacity crowd at the Dell Stadium, Menston put in a sensational display to tear apart a good Baildon team.
With only Barker missing, Rangers put out a strong team and were determined to make it through to their first final in four years.
After an even opening 20 minutes in which Baildon created plenty of chances but were unable to beat an excellent Texel in goal, Menston slowly began to take control and were rewarded when great interplay between Machell and Ainsworth resulted in the latter slotting the ball away. By now Menston were dominant and soon Miller shot through a packed area to double the advantage, in so doing scoring his first goal since October 2020.
Inside the first minute of the second half, Ainsworth made it three with an opportunistic strike from outside the area and the match settled down, with any hopes Baildon had extinguished by an outstanding defensive display, man of the match Casey the pick of the back three.
With 15 minutes remaining, Ainsworth completed his hat trick, beating the keeper at the second attempt, and with the match settled Menston were allowed to play some lovely, fluent football.
A well deserved final awaits this team who are showing real quality at the end of a long and hard campaign.
