After a five week absence, Menston's league campaign resumed today with a home match against Wilsden. The rain eased, the sun came out, and after an even opening 10 minutes, Rangers raced into a 2 goal lead, both goals poached by Holliday-Gomes who finished with some elan.
Hopes of a comfortable afternoon were crushed as Wilsden grew into the game, pulling one back after half an hour and putting the home side under considerable pressure in the closing minutes of the first half.
The opening exchanges of the second half were cagey, neither side dominating as fitness levels were tested. Menston's 2 goal advantage was re-established through a stunning goal from Bates, who lofted a ball from well outside the area into the top corner. His job done, Bates limped off.
Menston proceeded to entertain the crowd during the last 20 minutes with a classy display of football, highlighted by clinical finishes from Imran and Ainsworth and a calmness and clarity displayed by the master of composure Casey. A final score of 5-1 was a fair reflection of their control.
With 2 cups to play for and a potential 14 fixtures remaining, Menston Rangers can move on with confidence.
